God of the Open Door

August 9-10, 2008
Series: The Book of Revelation
Speaker: Brian T. Anderson
- Introduction
- Prov. 14:4 (NAS) Where no oxen are, the manger is clean, But much revenue comes by the strength of the ox.
- Rev. 3:7-13 (NLT) 7“Write this letter to the angel of the church in Philadelphia. This is the message from the one who is holy and true, the one who has the key of David. What he opens, no one can close; and what he closes, no one can open.8I know all the things you do, and I have opened a door for you that no one can close. You have little strength, yet you obeyed my word and did not deny me. 9Look, I will force those who belong to Satan’s synagogue—those liars who say they are Jews but are not—to come and bow down at your feet. They will acknowledge that you are the ones I love.10Because you have obeyed my command to persevere, I will protect you from the great time of testing that will come upon the whole world to test those who belong to this world.11I am coming soon. Hold on to what you have, so that no one will take away your crown.12All who are victorious will become pillars in the Temple of my God, and they will never have to leave it. And I will write on them the name of my God, and they will be citizens in the city of my God—the new Jerusalem that comes down from heaven from my God. And I will also write on them my new name.13“Anyone with ears to hear must listen to the Spirit and understand what he is saying to the churches.”
- I Cor. 16:8-9 (NLT) 8In the meantime, I will be staying here at Ephesus until the Festival of Pentecost. 9There is a wide-open door for a great work here, although many oppose me.
- Rev. 3:8 (NLT) “I know all the things you do, and I have opened a door for you that no one can close. You have little strength, yet you obeyed my word and did not deny me.”
- Gen. 24:1-4 (NLT) 1Abraham was now a very old man, and the LORD had blessed him in every way.2One day Abraham said to his oldest servant, the man in charge of his household, “Take an oath by putting your hand under my thigh.3Swear by the LORD, the God of heaven and earth, that you will not allow my son to marry one of these local Canaanite women.4Go instead to my homeland, to my relatives, and find a wife there for my son Isaac.”
- Gen. 24:12-14 (NLT) 12“O LORD, God of my master, Abraham,” he prayed. “Please give me success today, and show unfailing love to my master, Abraham.13See, I am standing here beside this spring, and the young women of the town are coming out to draw water.14This is my request. I will ask one of them, ‘Please give me a drink from your jug.’ If she says, ‘Yes, have a drink, and I will water your camels, too!’—let her be the one you have selected as Isaac’s wife. This is how I will know that you have shown unfailing love to my master.”
- Rev. 3:7 (NLT) “Write this letter to the angel of the church in Philadelphia. This is the message from the one who is holy and true, the one who has the key of David. What he opens, no one can close; and what he closes, no one can open.”
- Isaiah 22:22 (NLT) I will give him the key to the house of David—the highest position in the royal court. When he opens doors, no one will be able to close them; when he closes doors, no one will be able to open them.
- Rev. 3:12a (NLT) All who are victorious will become pillars in the Temple of my God, and they will never have to leave it.
- Rev. 21:22 (NLT) I saw no temple in the city, for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are its temple.
- Rev. 3:14-22 (NLT) 14“Write this letter to the angel of the church in Laodicea. This is the message from the one who is the Amen—the faithful and true witness, the beginning of God’s new creation:15I know all the things you do, that you are neither hot nor cold. I wish that you were one or the other! 16But since you are like lukewarm water, neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth! 17You say, ‘I am rich. I have everything I want. I don’t need a thing!’ And you don’t realize that you are wretched and miserable and poor and blind and naked. 18So I advise you to buy gold from me—gold that has been purified by fire. Then you will be rich. Also buy white garments from me so you will not be shamed by your nakedness, and ointment for your eyes so you will be able to see. 19I correct and discipline everyone I love. So be diligent and turn from your indifference.20Look! I stand at the door and knock. If you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in, and we will share a meal together as friends. 21Those who are victorious will sit with me on my throne, just as I was victorious and sat with my Father on his throne.22Anyone with ears to hear must listen to the Spirit and understand what he is saying to the churches.”
