What Does it Mean to be "An Extraordinary Follower of Christ"?

At Vineyard Church North Phoenix we are committed to “Transforming Ordinary People into Extraordinary Followers of Christ.” We find this transformation tends to happen as people become committed, in ever increasing measure, to three things; Christ, His Church and His Cause. We have found that making these commitments help people to be in a place where the Holy Spirit can transform them, more and more, into extraordinary followers of Christ.

Our ministry focus is to provide avenues to help people grow in these commitments.

Receiving Christ as Lord & Savior (Born again)

John 3:5-7 (NIV) Jesus answered, “I tell you the truth, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit. 6Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit. 7You should not be surprised at my saying, ‘You must be born again.’

Being Water Baptized

Matthew 28:19 (NIV) Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,

Becoming a Worshipper of God

Romans 12: 1 (NIV) Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God—this is your spiritual act of worship. Being Obedient to Christ and His Word John 14:23 (NIV) Jesus replied, “If anyone loves me, he will obey my teaching. My Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him.

Membership (Newcomer’s Class)

Ephesians 2:19 (NRSV) So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are citizens with the saints and also members of the household of God…

Consistent Attendance

Hebrews 10:24-25 (TMNT) Let’s see how inventive we can be in encouraging love and helping out, 25not avoiding worshiping together as some do but spurring each other on, especially as we see the big Day approaching.

Small Group Participation

Acts 5:42 (TMNT) Every day they were in the Temple and homes, teaching and preaching Christ Jesus, not letting up for a minute.

Giving of Finances

2 Corinthians 9:7-8 (NIV) Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. 8And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.

Serving

1 Peter 4:10 (NIV) Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God’s grace in its various forms.

Commitment to His Cause

Sharing Your Faith

Philemon 1:6 (NIV) I pray that you may be active in sharing your faith, so that you will have a full understanding of every good thing we have in Christ.

Being an inviter

Luke 14:13-14 (NIV) But when you give a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind, 14and you will be blessed. Although they cannot repay you, you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous.”

Leading and Discipling Others

Matthew 28:19-20 (NIV) Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

Ministering to Others

Galatians 5:13-14 (TMNT) It is absolutely clear that God has called you to a free life. Just make sure that you don’t use this freedom as an excuse to do whatever you want to do and destroy your freedom. Rather, use your freedom to serve one another in love; that’s how freedom grows. 14For everything we know about God’s Word is summed up in a single sentence: Love others as you love yourself.

Ministering to the Poor

Jeremiah 22:16 (NIV) He defended the cause of the poor and needy, and so all went well. "Is that not what it means to know me?"" declares the LORD.

Being Involved in Local and Global Outreach

Acts 1:8 (NIV) But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
