  1. Introduction
    1. I Tim. 6:10 For the love of money is a root of all sorts of evil, and some by longing for it have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.
    2. John 13:2a (NLT) It was time for supper.
    3. John 13:12a-17 12“Do you know what I have done to you? 13“You call Me Teacher and Lord; and you are right, for so I am. 14If I then, the Lord and the Teacher, washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet. 15For I gave you an example that you also should do as I did to you. 16Truly, truly, I say to you, a slave is not greater than his master, nor is one who is sent greater than the one who sent him. 17If you know these things, you are blessed if you do them.”
  2. Observations from John 13
    1. Jesus calls every follower of His to acts of servanthood like footwashing.
    2. You will be blessed if you live this way!
  3. Observations from Solomon
    1. Eccl. 2:1,4 (NLT) 1I said to myself, “Come now, let’s give pleasure a try. Let’s look for the ‘good things’ in life.” But I found that this, too, was meaningless. 4I also tried to find meaning by building huge homes for myself and by planting beautiful vineyards.
    2. Eccl. 2:5-6 (NLT) 5I made gardens and parks, filling them with all kinds of fruit trees. 6I built reservoirs to collect the water to irrigate my many flourishing groves.
    3. Eccl. 2:7-8 (NLT) 7I bought slaves, both men and women, and others were born into my household. I also owned great herds and flocks, more than any of the kings who lived in Jerusalem before me. 8I collected great sums of silver and gold, the treasure of many kings and provinces. I hired wonderful singers, both men and women, and had many beautiful concubines. I had everything a man could desire!
    4. Eccl. 2:10a, b (NLT) Anything I wanted, I took. I did not restrain myself from any joy.
    5. Eccl. 2:11 (NLT) But as I looked at everything I had worked so hard to accomplish, it was all so meaningless. It was like chasing the wind. There was nothing really worthwhile anywhere.
  4. Conclusion
