November 17–18, 2007
Series: Reaching Out
Speaker: Brian T. Anderson
- Introduction
- Why are we an “outreach-oriented” church?
- Because the Bible commands us to be outreach-oriented!
- Matt. 28:18-20 (NAS) 18And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.19“Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit,20teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”
- Acts 1:8 (NAS) “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth.”
- Because of the needs of those around us!
- II Peter 3:9 (NAS) The Lord is not slow about His promise, as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance.
- When a church decides it doesn’t want to keep reaching out to more people, that’s a sign of selfishness !
- Phil. 2:3 (NAS) Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind regard one another as more important than yourselves.
- A church chooses if it wants to keep reaching people or not!
- Luke 19:10 (NAS) “For the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost.”
- Common excuses for a church to stop reaching new people for Christ
- “God isn’t interested in numbers .”
- “We want quality in our church, not quantity.”
- Mark 1:17 (NAS) “And Jesus said to them, “Follow Me, and I will make you become fishers of men.”
- “Large churches are too impersonal .”
- How can I really make a difference with my life?
