  1. Introduction
  2. Characteristics of the Prayer Life of Jesus
    1. Jesus was constantly in prayer.
      1. John 11:42 (NLT) “You always hear me, but I said it out loud for the sake of all these people standing here, so that they will believe you sent me.”
    2. Jesus’ prayer life was first of all about praise .
      1. “Berakah” - - Blessing
      2. “Blessed are You, O Lord our God, Whose strength and power fill the Earth.”
      3. Luke 10:21 (NLT) At that same time Jesus was filled with the joy of the Holy Spirit, and he said, “O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, thank you for hiding these things from those who think themselves wise and clever, and for revealing them to the childlike. Yes, Father, it pleased you to do it this way.
      4. John 11:41-42 (NLT) 41So they rolled the stone aside. Then Jesus looked up to heaven and said, “Father, thank you for hearing me. 42You always hear me, but I said it out loud for the sake of all these people standing here, so that they will believe you sent me.”
      5. John 17:1 (NLT) After saying all these things, Jesus looked up to heaven and said, “Father, the hour has come. Glorify your Son so he can give glory back to you.”
      6. I Thess. 5:18 (NAS) In everything give thanks; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.
    3. Jesus was passionate in His prayers.
      1. Heb. 5:7 (NAS) In the days of His flesh, He offered up both prayers and supplications with loud crying and tears to the One able to save Him from death, and He was heard because of His piety.
      2. Psalm 10:1 (NLT) O LORD, why do you stand so far away? Why do you hide when I am in trouble?
      3. Mark 11:25 (NAS) “Whenever you stand praying, forgive, if you have anything against anyone, so that your Father who is in heaven will also forgive you your transgressions.”
      4. Joshua 7:10 (NLT) But the LORD said to Joshua, “Get up! Why are you lying on your face like this?”
      5. Rom. 8:15 (NLT) So you have not received a spirit that makes you fearful slaves. Instead, you received God’s Spirit when he adopted you as his own children. Now we call him, “Abba, Father.”
    4. Jesus was intimate with God in His prayers.
      1. Mark 14:36a (NLT) “Abba, Father,” he cried out, “everything is possible for you.”
      2. John 17:22-23 (NLT) 22“I have given them the glory you gave me, so they may be one as we are one. 23I am in them and you are in me. May they experience such perfect unity that the world will know that you sent me and that you love them as much as you love me.”
      3. Rom. 8:14-16 (NLT) 14For all who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God. 15So you have not received a spirit that makes you fearful slaves. Instead, you received God’s Spirit when he adopted you as his own children. Now we call him, “Abba, Father.” 16For his Spirit joins with our spirit to affirm that we are God’s children.
      4. Isaiah 49:15 (NLT) “Can a mother forget her nursing child? Can she feel no love for the child she has borne? But even if that were possible, I would not forget you!”
