2009 Honduras Mission Trip
The mountains of Tegucigalpa, occupied by the extreme poor, lack basic infrastructure and most families living here are considered “squatters”. Laurie Matherne, a Vineyard missionary from Vineyard Church Kenner, moved permanently to Honduras one year ago to make a difference in the lives of these families. Laurie takes her years of educational experience as a teacher to these mountains with the hope of eventually planting a Vineyard church here. We are collecting school supplies to give out the children Laurie is helping. In addition we’ll be partnering with a program gives a glass of milk to every child during Sunday School. Most children do not drink milk in this community after being weaned around one years of age. After that, they drink coffee or soft drinks! Milk can be bought in bulk in Honduras. It is our first time ministering in this remote area and we are very grateful for this opportunity.
In the Valley of the Angels there is an orphanage, school and community outreach ministries ran by “Friends of the Vineyard”. This beautiful area has many poverty and gang related issues. The opportunity to minister with the school, orphanage and to the young families of this area is exciting
The small city and farmlands of La Esperanza is home to a Vineyard Small Group with a big hope of serving their community and planting a Vineyard Church. We will be partnering with the small group to reach the people of this region as they begin the process of planting. This rural area is in great need of hope, even though its name means “The City of Hope”.
Lastly, we will be traveling to the city of Comayagua which is changing daily. With population growth and the introduction of new commerce, the city is facing new challenges. Comayagua is home to our very own home-girl missionary, Jenny Whitson. The Vineyard Church in Comayagua is a thriving community of believers that desire to learn more about “Serving Comayagua”. Our goal this summer is to bring what God has given us in the way of serving our communities to Comayagua. Breaking ground on our new housing project, repairing damages from the recent earthquakes, building carts for single mom’s to start their own businesses and strengthening the church, our team will have many opportunities.
Would you consider joining our outreach by donating much needed school supplies, hygiene items and/or monetary donation? Please consider being a part of this adventure through prayer, donations and giving.
Thank you and God bless.
