Why Are We Water Baptized?

  1. To follow Jesus Christ’s example Mark 1:9 (NLT) One day Jesus came from Nazareth in Galilee, and John baptized him in the Jordan River.
  2. To obey Jesus’ command Matthew 28:18-20 (NLT) Jesus came and told his disciples, “I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth. Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”
    • Obeying Jesus shows Him that I know Him, and I love Him 1 John 2:3 (NLT) And we can be sure that we know him if we obey his commandments. John 14:15 (NLT) If you love me, obey my commandments.
  3. To show I am a believer in Jesus Acts 2:41 (NLT) Those who believed what Peter said were baptized and added to the church that day—about 3,000 in all.
